a protest in san francisco, last night over the police shooting of a suspect in bayview district. tonight police will hold a townhall meeting. >> he left on a road trip and never came home. police are investigating the disappearance of a walnut creek teenager. >> in less than an hour senator dianne feinstein will begin a hearing on bill of defense of marriage act. >> check out this picture from the roof cam. lack of clouds and even a breeze. it is going to be warm today and tomorrow. warmest in the forecast and hue high it gets in your neighborhood and cooling trend for the weekend. good morning i'm sue hall

in the traffic center. we've got spots of slow traffic. we'll get you on your way to your morning commute. one minute after 6:00. i'm terry mcsweeney in for eric thomas. >> i'm kristen sze. >> top story, san francisco's police chief will hold a townhall meeting to discuss the police shooting of a suspect in the bayview. activists held a protest last night. amy hollyfield joins us live from the area where the protest begin to spin out of control. >> reporter: it was here in the castro which has residents confused. they don't understand why the protest would be held here when they are protesting something that happened in the bay view. but this neighborhood paid the price. check out what happened at bank of america here at 18th and castro. hate has a shattered windows and there were reports of a smoke bomb being thrown in the muni station. so it was destructive in this

neighborhood. it started in dolores park and headed to the castro. about 160 people demonstrating. someone threw a hammer at police officers. no one was hurt but police declared an unlawful assembly. they arrested 35 people. >> we supported these folks along the way to exercise their first amendment rights. we reached a point down here where the crowd was getting quite loud and we asked them to get out of the street. >> reporter: this protest is over the shooting death of 19-year-old kenneth harding, a parolee from washington state. he has a criminal history that includes being a person of interest in a murder investigation. san francisco police say he shot at them first that is why they shot and killed him. protestors have questioned whether he was armed at all. so police have trying to get all the information and evidence.

just yesterday they announced they found gunshot residue on harding's hand. so emotions in this case are intense and police chief has scheduled a townhall meeting at 6:00 at bay view opera house. amy hollyfield, "abc 7 news." a new finds contra costa police agencies are being strained to the breaking point by budget cuts especially the county's sheriff's department. they have lost 50 deputies in the last three years and now it takes almost nine minutes for them to respond to top priority calls. the county standard is five minute response time. it was ordered by a group that promotes cooperation between police agencies to reduce the strain and they recommended they jointly purchase equipment and also suggests agencies share specialized police teams like gang suppression and some jobs like those in detention should

be taken over by civilians. >> they are searching for a white chevy malibu in that hit and killed a pedestrian. the malibu and killed a man that was standing in one of westbound lanes in i-80. driver got out of car on the freeway. the car likely has front end damage from the collision. if you have any information you are asked to call the california highway patrol. >> the reward for finding the person that beat brian store increased it to $225,000. two men attacked stow at dodgers stadium. he is still being treated at san francisco general hospital for severe brain injuries and had to have another emergency surgery this week to remove fluid

building up in his brain. less than an hour from now senator feinstein begins a hearing on her bill to repeal the law federal recognition same-sex couples. who is expected to testify. >> we can expect to hear from couples that are directly affected and those that have invested a great deal of interest in following this story and seeing where doma is headed. on tuesday president reaffirmed that would overturn the act or doma. feinstein believes that public support is swinging against doma. right now doma denies same-sex couples of marriage related benefits. she and others members will hear

obama administration to increase exports could bring hundreds of jobs to port of oakland. they signed an agreement in oakland yesterday intended to generate more business for the nation's seaport. besides improving infrastructure they will reach out to u.s. companies about exporting their products. one area of growth the wine industry. >> 90% of the wines from california is shipped through the port of oakland. we see the increasing market for wine in asia particularly in china as huge opportunity for us to increase exports. >> the goal of the national sensitivity to double the exports in five years. >> after reinventing pcs bill gates is turning attention to something else. toilets are in need of a major overhaul. he says 2.35 billion people

don't have access to toilets that leads to unhealthy situations sometimes costing lives. they are pledging $42 million in grants to spur innovation. toilets need to be inexpensive and recycle the water and energy in the process. okay. ladies listen up, if your partner has accused of nagging them just explain that nagging could save their lives. a new study show that married men have better health than single men. they have wives that nag them about keeping their doctors appointments. on average married heart attack victims arrive at the hospital half an hour sooner than those not married. another bonus women check with their doctors on medical advice on their husbands behalf.

degrees and 52 in gilroy. let's talk about highlights. warmest afternoons you got it today and tomorrow. now when the clouds start to return to all of our neighborhoods which will be friday morning that is when we'll see the cooler weather roll in and temperatures will be cooler than average friday afternoon probably through the back half of the forecast. today everybody going up oakland, 3 degrees warmer, san francisco and san jose 6 fremont, 7. inland neighborhoods the warmest jump today 8 degrees for you. some hours and 25 minutes of sunshine before it sets at 8:28. here is a look what is happening fog around the peninsula trying to push into the golden gate and northwest winds kick in and watch how it wipes it 60s and 70s and 80s around the bay and 90s inland. 86 in san jose and 89 in los gatos.

you can see traffic slowing as you head toward san jose. they are trying to get the accident out of there as quickly as possible. san francisco police chief is holding a community meeting over the officer shooting death in the bayview. police provided more evidence that the suspect shot first but activists don't believe it. amy hollyfield has more. >> reporter: protest came through the castro. check out the damage that was done. this is bank of america at 18th and castro that had its window shattered. reports of smoke bombs thrown inside the muni station here. this protest started at 5:00 yesterday afternoon and came through the castro around 6:00. no one was hurt but someone did throw a hammer at police officers. police declared an unlawful

over this case in the san francisco and police chief is going to hold a town voo hall meeting at the bayview opera house scheduled at 6:30 tonight. right now firefighters in mountain view are trying to determine that a massive fire that damaged u-haul trucks was arson. it started just after midnight. it closed the el camino real. two dozen people had to have been evacuated for a while. the street has now reopened. this morning they are using especially trained dogs to determine if they can find any accelerant that was used to to start the fire. >> viewer sent us pictures of ureport of one man being

detained at macarthur boulevard. they arrests him after a foot chase. a woman was found dead on ivanhoe road on thursday morning the woman appeared to have been beaten before her body was set on fire. there is no indication of a motive for the crime. the marin county sheriff says an off-duty deputy that was killed trying to calm a domestic violence situation was known for his kindness. the deputy was called to a friend's house near petaluma on monday night after the woman received death threats from an ex-boyfriend. that man showed up at the house a short time later with a gun. the deputy was unarmed. >> he approached the house. at that time the suspect shot him twice in the upper torso killing him at the scene. he then proceeded to look for the girlfriend who had ran to neighbor's house in the area. >> her son came out of house and

killed the suspect. they are calling the shooting of the suspect a justifiable homicide. >> a san jose woman is under arrest this morning after police say she tried to kidnap a three-year-old girl from her mother's arm. the child was playing outside her family home on park avenue this week according to police 26-year-old tried to lure her away. the child and teenage sister ran into their home to have flores follow them in trying to take the child. police arrested her half an hour later. >> they are looking for a 17-year-old student that left on a road trim and hasn't returned home. he goes to. they are concerned about him because he hasn't been heard of since. he told friends that he might go

to a number of places including sacramento yosemite and tahoe. he was last seen driving that silver honda civic and license plate 6 kom 024. if you have any information you are asked to call pleasant hill police. >> they are looking for one hiker reportedly swept over a water fall at yosemite national park. rangers received several calls about one or more hikers going over bernal falls and into the merced river. search failed to turn up everything. a popular trail is closed. record snowfall has created spectacular water falls but treacherous conditions at yosemite. eight people have died in the park so far this year. >> oakland city council is doubling the medical marijuana dispensaries in the city. they have approved a plan to increase the dispensaries from four to eight. they are trying to find a way to tax and license marijuana you
